Isabelle Barthélemy creates light sculptures for live performances and installations, as well as indoor lighting fixtures and decorative objects whose lines are inspired by the plant world. She explores the delicacy, flexibility, and malleability of wicker, combined with the lightness and transparency of paper, to give form to what nature’s elegance inspires in her. Each creation is a one-of-a-kind piece, entirely handmade, using environmentally conscious methods.
She shares her passion for creation and light through lantern-making workshops open to everyone, which may be followed by nighttime processions, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their own creations.
In the performing arts, she also designs and creates masks, puppets, props, and set pieces, adapting to the specific requirements and worlds of each project.
Initially trained in jewelry making, then in the restoration of antique furniture and ceramics, she later turned to the performing arts, first as a musician. She then gradually developed a unique technique for constructing objects from wicker and paper, which she applies to the creation of light sculptures.
Building on these complementary experiences, she continued her journey by taking various courses focused on the creation of props for the performing arts in order to broaden her creative possibilities at the intersection of craftsmanship, lighting, and performance.
